Johnson Centrifugal Technology (JCT) will attend the 34th annual Submarine Industrial Base Council (SIBC) Supplier Days Conference. This event will take place from February 24 to 26, 2025. They will hold it at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA.

The SIBC aims to teach policymakers and the public about the importance of the U.S. submarine force. It also promotes the submarine industrial base as a key part of our national security. Submarine centrifugal casting components are important for the function and durability of submarine parts. These parts need strong materials that can handle high pressure, harsh marine conditions, and mechanical stress. The centrifugal casting process, particularly vertical centrifugal casting, is ideal for producing high-quality, dense, and uniform parts for these specialized applications.

Key Submarine Centrifugal Casting Components:

Propellers and Shaft Sleeves:

Propellers are critical for submarine propulsion, requiring strong, wear-resistant materials. Manufacturers use centrifugal casting to make propeller blades and shaft sleeves. They use strong alloys like bronze or stainless steel. These materials resist corrosion, cavitation, and erosion while ensuring efficient energy transfer.

Valves and Fittings:

Submarines rely on a range of valves and fittings for fluid control in the engine room, ballast tanks, and other systems. Manufacturers often make stainless steel and bronze parts using centrifugal casting. This method is popular because these materials resist corrosion and have strong mechanical properties.

Hydraulic Systems:

Hydraulic parts like pumps, cylinders, and manifolds gain from the consistent material properties made by centrifugal casting. These parts must withstand high pressure and operate reliably in harsh underwater environments.

Overall, centrifugal casting plays a vital role in manufacturing high-performance, durable components for submarines, contributing to their safety, efficiency, and longevity in service.
