JCT Alloy Application Review – Copper Group

JCT is the only facility in the US to offer vertical centrifugal castings in Copper, Steels, and Aluminum alloy groups!  Today will review our expertise in Copper alloys, which include Bronze, Brass and other varieties.

Key characteristics: High resistance to corrosion, and high thermal and electrical conductivity.

Maximum JCT Pour Weights:  20,000 lbs (9072 kg)

Typical JCT Dimensions:  6 to 78 inches in diameter; all lengths up to 52 inches

Benefits of Various Copper Alloys and Typical Applications:

Pure Copper

  • High purity with excellent electrical and thermal properties
  • Mold liners for continuous and billet casting, high conductivity rotors, and cryogenic applications.

High Copper Alloys

  • Low-alloyed copper combining good conductivity with moderately high strength.
  • Machinery parts, such as brake drums and discs, in paper mills and carpet conveyors, and take-up rolls.

Lead Bronze and Brass

  • Excellent lubricity and machinability with moderate mechanical properties.
  • Critical wear crusher equipment parts such as bearings and bronze bushings.

Nickel Silver

  • Moderate strength combined with corrosion resistance and excellent machinability.
  • Steam turbine parts, both new and replacement.
  • Packing and labyrinth rings.

Manganese Bronze/Yellow Brass

  • High strength and galling resistance.
  • Bronze gear blanks: Worm gears and Hub gears.

Aluminum Bronze

  • High Strength and excellent corrosion resistance.
  • Bronze gear blanks: worm gears and Hub gears.
  • Corrosion and anti-galling Components, such as bearing, gear, sealing, and valve and pump components.
  • Lubricated hinge ball bushings.

Copper-Nickel:

  • High seawater corrosion resistance and strength
  • Pump, valve, and bearing sleeve components especially in seawater environments, both commercial and Military.
